Maureen Fulgenzi's artistic proclivities surfaced at an early age, as her teachers in Westchester, New York found it difficult to keep her attention away from a drawing pad. After four years studying fashion illustration and advertising at New York's School of Visual Arts, she embarked on a stint as a freelance illustrator, working for Fairchild Publications, Buyers' Fashion Reports, and Sasson. In 1976, she and a partner founded Gossamer Wing, which introduced hand-painted textiles on silk to New York couture. Having garnered a celebrity clientelle (including Mary McFadden and Ralph Lauren) with the Gossamer venture, she employed hand-painted fabrics to produce a line of clothing, attracting buyers from upscale stores and clients such as Betty White and Mary Tyler Moore. Through her travels in Europe, she gained new sources of inspiration, becoming increasingly passionate about expression through painting -- to which for the past fifteen years she has devoted herself full time.
